Last week, the Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) conducted a site visit to FAUQUIER FISH. Students had the opportunity to meet with staff, tour the facility, and ask additional questions about the organization. Later in the evening, our Senior Program Officer, Dede McClure, led a virtual workshop teaching students how to read and analyze nonprofit 990 forms—a crucial skill for understanding financial transparency in philanthropy. We’re so proud of these future leaders as they dive into the world of philanthropy and community service! #YouthInPhilanthropy #CommunityLeadership #NPCF #FauquierFISH #PhilanthropyEducation

In Week 6 of NPCF’s Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program, our students visited Services for Abused Families (S.A.F.E.) to better understand how they provide essential support to youth in the community. Youth Program Coordinator Jennifer Bowles shared how the organization educates young people on healthy vs. unhealthy relationship behaviors, helping them navigate friendships and romantic relationships. Our YIP students voiced the importance of this education in schools, recognizing its potential to prevent future abusive relationships and to help peers who may be struggling. Executive Director Angela Abeijon discussed the extensive services S.A.F.E. offers, from counseling to legal advocacy, supporting victims through every step of recovery. We’re inspired by the incredible work S.A.F.E. is doing and proud to have YIP students engaging with nonprofits making such a difference.#YouthInPhilanthropy #NPCF #CommunityImpact #Nonprofits #SAFE #HealthyRelationships #YouthEmpowerment #VictimSupport

This week, the Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program welcomed two outstanding nonprofit leaders who gave our students incredible insights into community engagement:🔹 David Shang from the PATH Foundation shared how the organization builds rapport with nonprofits to determine the best ways to provide support and connect them to other resources. His interactive rope game emphasized the importance of collaboration, with plenty of laughter along the way! 🔹 Ireland Hayes from Foothills Forum discussed how nonprofit news outlets like hers work to fill local news deserts, hold community leaders accountable, and ensure that the public receives unbiased and diverse coverage. Her organization's work with local newspapers is vital for keeping the community well-informed.We deeply appreciate both David and Ireland for helping our students understand the importance of these relationships in strengthening our community.#YouthInPhilanthropy #NPCF #NonprofitLeadership #CommunityEngagement #Philanthropy #PATHFoundation #FoothillsForum #CommunityNews #LeadershipDevelopment

We're proud to announce the renaming of the Bracey Family Commitment to Service Fund to the Bracey-Wines Commitment to Service Scholarship in memory of the late Robert "Eddie" Wines, who dedicated 45 years to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office. This scholarship, managed by NPCF, was established to honor the enduring legacies of Deputy Wines and his close friend, Glen Bracey, a former deputy in the same department. The Bracey-Wines Scholarship will continue to support law enforcement initiatives in Fauquier County, ensuring that the values of service, dedication, and community care upheld by both men will endure for generations.🔗 Visit https://lnkd.in/gVsgFV8S to donate to the fund and help us honor their legacy.#LawEnforcement #PublicService #CommunityImpact #NPCF #LegacyOfService #FauquierCounty

After successfully revisiting the spaghetti marshmallow challenge, Youth in Philanthropy students shared their thoughts on what they believe are the most critical needs in the community and discussed how best to address them. This conversation will continue throughout the program. We also had the privilege of hearing from Elfie Schmid, representing People Helping People of Fauquier County. She shared the critical work her organization does to provide emergency assistance and support to families in need, helping them regain stability and hope. Elfie’s deeply personal story resonated with our students—at just seven years old, she escaped the Nazis and Russians during WWII, walking over 300 miles with her family to find safety. She bravely begged for food to keep her family from starving, and they were ultimately saved by American forces. Her story of resilience and the power of community left a lasting impact on everyone in the room.#YouthInPhilanthropy #NPCF #LeadershipDevelopment #CommunityImpact #PeopleHelpingPeople #Inspiration #Resilience
